Genre Butterfly 🦋
I love starting blogs. There's something so exciting about picking out the name, the theme, the aesthetic. It's sticking with a blog that I find difficult.
I am not going to be too specific about this blog's topics and themes. It's a writing blog, I suppose, but it is not specifically a historical romance writing blog, a comedy writing blog or a literary fiction blog (I have had all three). The less specific I am right now, the less likely I am to run off and start a new blog the moment I have a new idea.
What I need to develop is writing discipline. I need to pick a project and stick to it. In the past, I've tried to achieve this by picking a genre and sticking to it. That was a mistake. My heart commands me to flit between genres like a beautiful butterfly. It's just part of my nature.
Instead, what I'm doing is starting with my vision panoramic. The widest view possible. This blog is about everything to do with writing. Every genre that interests me can happily find a home here. It should make it easier for me to stick with this blog. I still don't know how I am going to stick to my larger writing projects.
Everything goes wrong the moment I feel boxed in. My butterfly soul wants to flap away. How can I bring a sense of joyous beginnings to a long-term project that could take me years to complete? Maybe that's one of the topics I'll write about in my blog. Maybe blogging itself will keep me on target.
The only thing I can do is try. Try to blog. Try to write short stories. Try to write a novel. If I keep trying, the chances I succeed will only increase. So that's what I'm here for, at 1am, jabbing at my phone with my fingertip. I am trying.
