1, 2, 3, 4

I wrote down each of my story ideas onto slips of paper. Then I jumbled them up and numbered them between one and four. After all this rigmarole, I asked my friends on social media which number I should pick. That is how I came up with story idea number three: surgeon.
This is positive. It's a story I've been leaning towards for a little while now. It's the story of a young woman who becomes a surgeon. It covers her developing interest in science, twinned with her newfound independence. Themes include loneliness and isolation. That sounds really depressing, doesn't it? Trust me, it's not!

If I were to compare this story idea to other works of fiction, I'd say it's a cross between Sophie's World and The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics. It's a mixture of mind-bending strangeness and a sapphic love story. There, that sounds a lot more interesting, doesn't it?

Honestly, I'm really happy that I wrote all that out. It gives me something to keep in mind while I'm writing. It will give me something to aspire to. I'm really happy with the little nubs of ideas that are coming together to form this story. Now all I have to do is write it.

As I've said in a previous post, I have a plan to write a first draft in one hundred days. My plan was to start on Friday, but, since I've decided which story I'm going to work on, there's nothing stopping me from starting early. I'll keep you updated.
